Mental health is critical to the foundation of overall health and well-being. Mental health and wellness play a key role not only in a birthing person’s overall health and well-being but also in their infant’s birth outcomes and subsequent healthy development. This project, generously funded by the California Healthcare Foundation with core support by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), improves the monitoring of mental health in the MIHA survey, expanding assessment of depression, anxiety, screening for mental health conditions, receipt of mental health care, and unmet need for care during and after pregnancy. MIHA publications on these topics released by the UCSF Center for Health Equity and California Department of Public Health improve our understanding of the maternal mental health needs and gaps in California. In addition to the reports below, MIHA data on perinatal depression and anxiety symptoms are available on the CDPH MIHA Data Dashboards.
