Community Innovation Pilot Awards (CIPA) Program

The University of California San Francisco Center for Health Equity (UCSF-CHE), in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), is excited to announce the Community Innovation Pilot Awards (CIPA) Program! These awards will fund innovative, community-based models throughout California that are working to improve Black maternal and infant health by reducing chronic stress, addressing neighborhood conditions, and expanding access to high-quality, respectful health care.

During the initial two-year funding cycle, the CIPA program will support 4 community-based organizations (CBOs) in California that are addressing maternal and infant health disparities by providing culturally congruent and community-centered perinatal health programs and services to pregnant and postpartum Black women, other Black birthing people, and their families. Awards will range from $160,000 - $200,000 per year (not to exceed a maximum of $200,000/year including indirect costs).

The application period closed at the end of May and resulted in the receipt of over 80 applications. An independent CIPA Review Panel of 17 reviewers with lived experience and a range of subject matter expertise reviewed and scored the applications.

Congratulations to the following organizations that will receive CIPA funding for FY 2026-2028:

Black Girls Mental Health Foundation

Breast Friends Lactation

Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento

Fresno Community Health Improvement Partnership

We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the proposed efforts on Black maternal and infant health!
